Detritus

teddies sit on chairs

this blue clothes hanger
— never my color —
belongs with those in your closet

and that Tupperware box
sitting in my refrigerator
with a slice of cake in it
came from your kitchen

probably my medium-sized Pyrex bowl
nests in your cabinet

and my missing slipper sock
no doubt
lies rolled up under the shoe rack in your foyer.

"Nana, can we take this Teddy home with us?"
"He lives here, for when you're playing here."
"Please?"
"Okay."

objects accidentally acquired,
detritus of sharing,
inanimate presences
evoking living presences.
